Uncas vs. Magua

The climatic cliff battle has always been rather disappointing to me. Throughout the movie, we see Uncas to be an able quick fighter and then he is sooo outmatched by Magua. I think it would have played better if Uncas got in a few shots before going down. Granted, he was probably a bit worn out from the climb and whacking through a line of Hurons to get to Magua. But still, he was so determined, I think he would have fought better.
And another thing - he made his intent clear to Ching. to go after Alice - why wasn't his father right on his heels? If I recall correctly, Nathaniel and Cora were almost out of the village - the Hurons were ignoring them because they were too pumped about roasting poor Duncan. I would think that Ching would have followed his son to help him out. Any thoughts??
