It is entirely possible that she would have been oblivious, Jeri. I've always thought she was one feather shy of a warbonnet by that time, anyway! (If you've read any of the old archived posts, you may have come across Miss Marcia's breakfast menu, which included Coddled Eggs a la Alice, served with the yolks staring blankly about!) But I do believe we are supposed to assume that she knows by then, else wouldn't Cora have hissed, "NATHANIEL!! I TOLD you to say NOTHING to Alice!!!"???
hehe...can't you just see her scolding him at that point?
