Just finished watching Comanche Moon.

While I was a bit skeptical toward the acting, I must admit - when To Be Continued flashed across the screen, I shrieked louder than any angry Indian. Especially because I have dance Tuesday night and won't be able to watch.

Your verdicts?

Me too! As I said in my earlier post, Val Kilmer stole the whole show, in my opinion. The whole flea thing... oh my gosh... I laughed at the craziness of his later years and his obsession with fleas! That was too funny.

I think he should win an Emmy for that role.

The only reason I watched the whole thing is because it was a good western, which are hard to come by... I had to overlook the fact that it was supposed to be about Gus and Call......

Oh,,,,,and what the hell kinda bacon did Gus have?? Charlie Goodnight cooked that bacon in about two minutes flat......crispy too....

Gosh - I couldn't even get my husband to go beyond about five minutes before turning it off! I figured I would watch it later, but now I may not bother! Rich, I LOVED Lonesome Dove, too.

Lonesome Dove is one of my very favorite movies ... I mean right up there at the top.

So, my dislike of this piece of garbage, Comanche Moon, is not because of a lack of interest in the subject matter. Maybe, because of it! Well, OK, perhaps "piece of garbage" is a bit harsh ... it does have some redeeming qualities. It's just that I bought the darn thing!! What a mistake ... Oh well, it does complete my LD-saga collection, at least ...

I absolutely loved Val Kilmer and Rachel Griffiths as the quirky Scull couple. Steve Zahn was pretty good as Gus. I could see Duvall in him at times. That's about it. I mean it was nice to see Deets and Jake and Pea and Woodrow again and all, but where was the story?????

There was none. Things were just beaten to death ... over and over ... Rangering coming to an end ... the love of my life ... very lame. Oh, and the dialog ... was it dialog???? One of the original's strongest points was its dialog ... the banter was real and endearing. You could feel the friendships and emotions. This was clearly sub-par and weak imitation. Failed miserably, in my opinion. It was just continuous small-talk. Embarrassing, actually. The villains were awful. All of them. Pathetic charicatures ... Even Wes Studi ... Now Frederic Forrest, in the original Lonesome Dove, was a VILLAIN. These guys? Uh-uh ...

I'm going to have to watch Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall in the real thing to free my memory of this one.

DUD!

Oh, and Newt was cute!

In the little bit of Comanche Moon that I actually watched, when Val Kilmer's character is first looking into the Indian camp with his spyglass, he says about Blue Duck, "He has a Mexican look about him." Then he makes some kind of remark about Blue Duck's mother probably being a captive. So Blue Duck's parentage is mentioned, though very briefly.

I was , but now I'm thank you for refreshing my fast fading memory.
Irishgirl Posted - January 18 2008 : 12:29:56 PM
KY his mother was the Mexican girl you see Buffalo Hump abducting towards the end of "Dead Man's Walk". So he is half Mexican. His mother was a right handful for Buffalo Hump and his other wives had to beat her regularly.

Did you know that Wes played "Famous Shoes" in "Streets of Laredo" another in the series. Funny how he gets to talk with himself in this one when Blue Duck, his son captured FS and brought him into camp thinking they would get to torture him.

Blackie, Famous Shoes walks everywhere in the book as well, just his "thang" girl. Guess they did not wish to change that. Famous Shoes in not one for the horses.

Oh, okay, I guess that clears it up. I bet his feet hurt at the end of the day!

Ky, I was pounding that moron Sean Penn not you. I like you

Susank started another thread "Comanche Moon Part Two" so I posted my thoughts on last night in there.

I've been reading this thread and am thankful that I decided to watch "Persuasion." I love all of Jane Austen's novels, so there is no way that I was going to miss this movie, and of course, I LOVED it!!!

Love,
Kay

Okay, I finally got to watch CM last night and I must say, I wasn't impressed. Is it me or does that Indian scout, Tonto, have to walk everywhere? I thought that kinda stupid. Meanwhile you got like eight or nine guys behind him ridin' on horseback. Not to mention they are making him out to be the typical 1920's Indian, "Me scout, me see tracks." Whatever!
Kyfrontiersman Posted - January 16 2008 : 09:53:07 AM
oops!!! you're right and i'm wro, wron, wro, wro, oh well???

Slight corrections KY James Garner played the older Call in "Streets of Laredo" not "Dead Mans Walk". Call was played by Johnny Miller in that one and he did a great job unlike the current Call played by "stiff as a board" Karl Urban. The movie "Dead Man Walking" was a totally different and not related to "Lonesome Dove" in any way. Thank God as it had that moron Sean Penn in it

Just catching up tp CM (got TOO caught up in Persuasion Sunday) and I think Steve Zahn should get a award for channeling Robert Duvall! I can hardly keep in mind it is Zahn at all! That in itself has been entertaining to me!

Well, I won't read this topic again--I taped it, but haven't watched it yet. I shouldn't have looked at this at all. Oh well.

You will have to tell me what that says. I don't par-lay Fran-say, and Babelfish would not translate it into anything that made sense.

It' just "Thank you. It's nothng." Or, "Think nothing of it." Sometimes Bablefish will give some really strange results, especially on a idiomatic expression.

Oh, Bravo, Fitz! Bravo!

I could tell he was singing in German, but I could not identify what it was. I am ashamed of myself, because I am very fond of The Magic Flute!

Well done!

Of course, my "joke interpretation" still works, as well!

Scull was singing in German one of Papageno's aires from Mozarts "Die Zauberflöte". Papageno was the bird catcher to the Queen of the Night.
