Well, yeah ... it was a "spike" ... a two-day spike. Went from 3111 on Tuesday to a whopping 5761 on Wednesday. Then, it peaked at the 5999 mentioned above, before dropping down to 3535 this past Friday.

Did LOTM air somewhere?

Yes Rich I think LOTM aired late last week but I'm not sure of the channel...I think someone said a Fox movie channel maybe? I didn't see it; a co-worker told me about it.

I've noticed here in NJ, The Last Of The Mohicans has been on Direct tv, on a continious basis for the past three months. Probably, other cable companies are doing the same.

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that LOTM is on Direct TV again. I tuned into the Encore channel and noticed it's started at 6:05-8pm and it's going on again at 9:05-11pm tonight. I had to pause cause of course the kissing part came on, and I was melting....
Rich, probably this will make the #'s sky high again. Later everyone, must return to the movie....

As Carter said, "Good job, Rich!" Maybe lots of students have just gotten assignments to write a paper dealing with American Indians? Or has LOTM been shown on TV recently? Whatever the reason, I agree with GG that we'll hit 10,000 before too long.

Monday, October 10, 2005 (Columbus Day) : 8481!!!!

3 of the past 7 days, we surpassed 8000 unique visitors. Now averaging well over 6000 per day. In the 3 years since this thread was started the record has increased by 6,000!

And so it goes ...

Well, that didn't last long ... and we skipped 9000 completely!

Wednesday, October 12, 2005: 10,205!!!!

This was caused largely by a sudden spike in the number of visits to one, usually relatively obscure, page [1987 unique visitors to this page alone]: Natty Bumppo: Trailing the Pathfinder ... Are ya listening, She Who Tracks???? Well done!

Wednesday, October 18, 2005: 11,316!!!

Followed by what would have been a record breaker the next day, Thursday, October 19, 2005: 10,222!!!

The 2 days or so where the board was down due to a database move to a new server, counts were dramatically off. Then, yesterday [Saturday - which used to see results like 600-1000, or so], we were up to 7,000 plus.

If only all these visits resulted in book sales - I could retire!
