: : I'm curious to know more about Montcalm's letters to his wife. Were they published -- is there a reference you can point me to?

: Sarah,

: Montcalm's letters, as well as his unpublished autobiography "Memoires Pour Servir a l'Histoire de ma Vie" are in the possession of his descendants. Many excerpts are in print and can be found in various F & I War books including Francis Parkman's "Montcalm and Wolf." There is today still a Marquis de Montcalm. He honored the "French Troops" at Fort Ticonderoga with his presence in '96 or '97.

: You have much reading to do; between Montcalm's lettres and Cooper's many works! :)

Sarah,

The book where I found them was Frances Jennings', "Empire of Fortune: Crowns, colonies and tribes in the Seven Years War in America." It is THE best book on the French and Indian War I have read. The author has really tried to show not just the battles and well known events, but the politics and the causes especially when it comes to the Native Americans. Forget Eckert, read this one.
