Dear Bill,

Since I have enjoyed meeting you, I hate to say... maybe you should give it a rest. In my humble opinion, the content of your message has very little to do with Nightsky's original message. I think you are a bit overreacting.

I actually like to see someone offering an alternative perspective. I don't think that Nightsky's message was so much focussed on men versus women, or agressors versus defenders. I think the point was that there is more to history than battles, wars and violence. And I agree with that. To me history starts with the thinkers, not the fighters. The Trias Politica, and the ideals of democracy come from the thinkers. Of course we all depend on the fighters to defend those ideas and ideals, and I do respect that a lot. But I believe that the violent part of history is overrated. The world that we live in today is as much a product of philosophers and freethinkers as of of armies and soldiers. Or at least, I want to believe that. :) Please let me believe that??? Really, I do appreciate all the sacrifices that have been made throughout the ages to bring us to this point, thinkers and fighters alike. I just don't want to see the glorious and loud things take all of the attention simply because they are glorious and loud. The things that are more silent and hidden can be just as crucial. I read Nightsky's post in that light.

Bill, I can say we have met! And we had some good discussions going on with a couple of us on that night that the neighbours complained, yes? I'd like to continue that, with all respect for everyone and their opinions. I will be looking so much forward to seeing you again at the next gathering :) We probably don't see eye to eye on a variety of subjects, because of out different culture and nationality, but I like to think that that is an opportunity to learn and be flexible and tolerant.

Nightsky, I think you have made a good post. I do like discussing these things, so thank you!

On a side note, how was the Perfect Storm? I am really looking forward to that movie, because I read the book, and I thought it was really heartbreaking... I don't think it will hit Europe before the Fall, so.... Is it as good as the book?

Warm regards to all of you!
Ilse
