I saw the blue cap and megaphone and couldn't believe I could have missed it! I did however find another blooper not mentioned. I want to say this tastefully so forgive me if it sounds bad. In Massacre Valley shortly after the megaphone bloop my husband and I noticed that Cora partially "falls out of her dress" to put it politely. An embarressing bloop for her I am sure. |

Okay, I know it's been over a year since this was posted but I have to say, the only "blooper" I've ever been able to catch is the close-up of Uncas with the earring; and I've watched this movie more times than my husband cares to count. |

I do think that the blue hat and megaphone is the worst infraction. That should have definately been caught, but how dumb was it to let the handler of the elk wear a bright red ball cap??? That was the silliest error.
In the "Elk Hunt" scene, it looks as though Hawkeye never removed and replaced his shooting bag and horn with the wampum strap when he changed shirts ...which is very very hard to do..even sober. (Experience speaks..)
Also in the "Ambush on the George Road" (I mentioned this one years ago.) when Hawkeye spins Killdeer off his shoulder to take aim at Magua who is drawing a bead on Cora. The sling was cross ways over his head and shoulder, but when he spins it off the rifle easily spins around because it is only on one shoulder and no longer over his head. |

I just thought I'd make a quick note and let you know, rydergrl, that the shot of Uncas where the earring is reversed was due to an editing decision. The film had to be "flopped" in post because the origingal "eye line" was incorrect. Of course, by reversing it, you alter the "right - left" correctness of the continuity. And I have to admit... I was on the shoot from the beginning of pre-production through the end... and I must have seen the film 20 times... and I've never picked up on any of these other bloopers. Guess I'm blind. But now I'm going to have to take a closer look... See ya. |

Welcome aboard, Christopher! Join in any ole time!
As for the bloopers ... they're hard to spot, usually, but once you know they're there ...
Sitting here 10 years later, the only one I can remember spotting myself was the baseball cap/megaphone one at Massacre Valley. I was at the home of an extra in the summer of '93 up in Marshall, NC [during my locations hunt]. He had heard through the grape vine what I was doing & called me and invited me over. The call sheets that are on this site in the Musings came from him. Lordy, cannot remember his name! He and his wife had bit parts & worked in make-up, too, if I remember correctly. He's the guy leading the cart behind Alice, Cora, & Duncan at Albany early on - the apples guy, too, I think. Anyway, we were watching the movie in VERY slow motion - he was trying to pick himself out - and all of a sudden, there they were! We died laughing! Couldn't believe our eyes! |

Well after watching this film for the umpteenth time I finally saw the blue cap and megaphone, thanks to the the clip printed on this board. However, I'm still looking for that silver bus. |

Nah, it's just that you saw it so often and much, it looked okay and you probably just saw it they way it should be. I know when I write, I'll keep find mistakes or typos and such, after months of not looking at it.
Truth, I didn't see all these bloopers either until they were pointed out. I still don't see the phone pole in the burnt-out cabin scene; and have yet to find the handrailing outside the Huron Village. lol

New Bloopers.. (I think)
This is a lot of fun. I just got a new computer with a DVD drive and I’m having a lot of fun walking through the scenes looking for goof-ups.
I think I have found a couple in just the few hours I have looked.
Please tell me if anybody else has found these..
(1) During the Silver Bus blooper, keep your eye on the road where the busses are, as Munro rides by, you will notice what appears to me to be a golf cart with a blue umbrella on it. Whatever it is its on 4 wheels and has something red in the front part. Maybe it’s a Hot-dog vendor. I really can’t tell.
(2) During the Massacre/Ambush valley scene as Hawkeye is running towards Cora, he stops and fights, runs stops fights and runs. The scene right after Uncas tomahawks a Huron in the stomach, Hawkeye stops and hits a Huron with his rifle over the back of the Huron’s neck. The rifle bends like a pretzel. (rubber)
(3) This is very small blooper, but during the same scene as blooper (2), the spear point on Chingachgook’s warclub is bent sideways. (rubber again).
I am a little disappointed in that I couldn’t find the scene where Madeleine Stowe came out of her dress. (bummer)
but I guess it doesn’t matter, she seems to have in the movies “Blink” and “Unlawful Entry” :-)
I’ll hunt for some more LOTM bloopers when I get a chance.
Thanks.

One more blooper, has anybody noticed that next to the guy with the blue baseball cap and megaphone, there is another guy with a black baseball cap?
and he has something written in white letters on the cap.
I'm having fun watching this movie this closely... |

Hi,
I was “tracking” this out of dress experience too on my computer, but IMHO unfortunately I think its just a depression of her breast from the tight dress she is wearing and its casting a shadow. If you follow it when she turns into the sun, it disappears. I had an idea that someone had mistaken this for more than what it is.
However, it wouldn’t be the first booby-blooper that has gotten past Mr. Mann’s Q.C. department. On an episode of Miami Vice, (I forget the plot). At the very beginning of the show, a woman was in another room and the camera was focused on her from a distance as some guy was putting his clothes on. She was putting her dress on with a bare back, and she was facing a mirror, well guess what you could see in the mirror...
Anyway,
My big blooper mystery is what is the item on the road after the Sliver buses blooper?
It looks like some sort of vehicle because I can see 2 tires facing me, so I assume there two more tires/wheels on the other side. It has what looks like a blue and white umbrella on top, and something red on the front.
Is it a Golf Cart, or ATV, or Hot Dog Vendor cart, or someone sunning themselves at the beach. Or something I hadn’t thought of?
Thanks.

One more mild blooper.
This one is barely worth mentioning but it is kind of funny. During the Elk Hunt, right when Hawkeye is getting ready to fire his musket and kill the elk/deer (I can’t tell what it is, since half of the time it looks like a deer to me, and when its killed it looks like an elk)..
Anyway, Watch where Hawkeye is aiming his rifle, and watch where Uncas is looking. Either they are looking at two different Elk, or the director just said look over there and pretend you are tracking something. Uncas is looking about 45 degrees off of where hawkeye is aiming.
Like I said, it’s a very minor point, but its still fun to pick these bloopers out.
I did find the Spray Can/Fire Extinguisher next to the stainless steel bowl on the side of the road during the fort surrender. Its black with a hose and nozzle, and writing on the side. It looks like something you would put insecticide or herbicide in to spray for weeds.. I wonder if its some sort of black dye to make the tree stumps look burnt by the firefight/battle during the days preceding the fort surrender.

Jet Airliner Contrails.
I think I found another couple of bloopers. (I’m really have fun with this.)
In the last fight scene between Chingachgook and Magua. (~ 1hr 47min 57s)
Right after Chingachgook delivers the fatal blow with his warclub, look over his shoulder in the upper left side of the screen (Jet Contrail), then right before Magua hits the ground, dead, look in the upper center of the screen (Jet Contrail)
I have to admit I was looking for Contrails during each outdoor/wide angle scene and these are the only ones I found.
Thanks.

It's not really a blooper but every time I watch the movie (still can't get enough of it)I'm amazed by the way Uncas body glides down the cliffs... and what do you think of that very fake view of the waterfall (before they go down on it). But I still like the movie very much. Tomorrow I have a day off and I'm going to watch it over and over again!

You do know that's a "dummy" fluidly falling over those rocks?
Speaking of dummies ... though I'm not a complete idiot [close, at times], I did not notice those falls were fake. Not till I discovered the truth, while seeking out those locations, could I recognize them as computer generated effects.
To this day, I get asked "where are those falls?" - so, apparently, I'm not alone. Wouldn't consider these bloopers! |

I've noticed that from the very first time I saw it...I thought it was VERY noticeably CGI. I can even pick out when they're in front of a green screen in LOTR most of the time too. They've come a long way, but I guess you have to know what to look for. hehe
